Stars knock Wankers out of Memorial Cup with 3-1 win

HOUSTON, Texas (AP) - Shooting Stars rediscovered their scoring touch on Sunday to beat Wankers 3-1 and advance to the third round of the Memorial Cup.

The Stars’ surprising lack of creativity in front of goal over the last five weeks, had no such problems in attack once Osagie Otoikhine had put them ahead in the 15th minute.  He was played onto goal with a magnificent through ball from MVP Tolu Ayoola.

“The team played exceptionally well in the 1st half because we were determined and focused. We also played as a team instead of individuals.  We have to play all the games like we played the 1st half,” striker Tolu told SSFC News.

Five minutes later, Osagie made another run into the box and was rewarded with yet another sublime pass from Tolu that doubled the lead.

They were on top from then on and tripled the lead with a terrific barging header from Glen Amakwe just before the break.

Wankers pulled one back midway through the second half with a nice volley from a free kick just outside the box but the Shooting Stars wouldn’t let them get any closer.

Stars return to league play next week against ASC Galaxy.

For those who don't know, what is your name and what do you do?
Justice Akuchie, what do I do? During the day, I work as a Project Engineer with Exterran Energy Solutions – building gas plants and early production facilities wherever needed. Some nights, I attend classes at UH in pursuit of an MBA degree. On Sundays, I attend Church – then suit up with SSFC to play the beautiful game.

Tell us about your family.
I am the 2nd of 6 kids – four girls and 2 boys. Our family resides in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria except for me and my elder sister. The entire family roots for Arsenal – and my little 8 year old brother is the next Cesc Fabregas. Watch out for him in 2018

When growing up where did you think you would be at this time in your life?
Hard to say – didn’t dwell too much on my future growing up – but I always thought I’d be a Petroleum or Marine Engineer

Now that you’re approaching 50 caps for this great club, would you consider your playing career at the club a success?  Can you still take your game to the next level?
I’d call my first season with a club a success since I ended up with about 10 goals and we fought hard for promotion after a tough start. However, it has been a slight decline since then. I reckon I can get back to Season one form

What do you think SSFC needs as a team?
We need discipline – to let our play do the talking. We still do not react well to pressure. We’ve got the talent to win the league.

Considering SSFC's recent performance, where do you think the team will finish at the end of the season?
Top of the league! We are finally clicking
