Stars knock Wankers out of Memorial Cup with 3-1 win HOUSTON, Texas (AP) - Shooting Stars rediscovered their scoring touch on Sunday to beat Wankers 3-1 and advance to the third round of the Memorial Cup. The Stars’ surprising lack of creativity in front of goal over the last five weeks, had no such problems in attack once Osagie Otoikhine had put them ahead in the 15th minute. He was played onto goal with a magnificent through ball from MVP Tolu Ayoola.
“The team played exceptionally well in the 1st half because we were determined and focused. We also played as a team instead of individuals. We have to play all the games like we played the 1st half,” striker Tolu told SSFC News.
Five minutes later, Osagie made another run into the box and was rewarded with yet another sublime pass from Tolu that doubled the lead.
They were on top from then on and tripled the lead with a terrific barging header from Glen Amakwe just before the break.
Wankers pulled one back midway through the second half with a nice volley from a free kick just outside the box but the Shooting Stars wouldn’t let them get any closer.
Stars return to league play next week against ASC Galaxy. ________________________________________________________________________________________
